HealthCare Institute of New Jersey statement on the Sherrill Administration’s Economic Development and Innovation Report

Trenton, February 18, 2026 ― Chrissy Buteas, President and Chief Executive Officer of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ – www.hinj.org), released the following statement concerning the release of the Sherrill Administration’s Economic Development and Innovation Report:

“We are excited to work with Governor Sherrill and her team to protect New Jersey’s status as the ‘Medicine Chest of the World’ and preserve our long-standing global leadership in innovation.”

Buteas continued, “Life sciences companies are moving overseas research and manufacturing facilities to American locations.  It is imperative that New Jersey make its business environment more hospitable to attract these new facilities, the billions of dollars in construction activity and the resulting direct and indirect jobs they bring.  This requires a command focus addressing our tax structure, our regulatory hurdles and additional business environment challenges.  The Sherrill Administration has made some critical and long-overdue policy recommendations to strengthen New Jersey’s workforce and economy, proposals that – if enacted – would vastly improve our state’s business climate, modernize our economy and create high-quality, high-paying jobs in the long-term.”

Buteas concluded, “We applaud the urgency with which the Governor has worked to address this situation, and we thank her for her continued focus on strengthening our state’s innovation economy.  We will continue working with her Administration to implement these thoughtful and strategic policies that will continue improving New Jersey’s global reputation."
