HOBOKEN DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE ELECTS PHIL COHEN AS PARTY CHAIR
Committee Votes to Move in a New Direction
HOBOKEN, NJ (April 9, 2019) – On Monday night, at the first official meeting of the Hoboken Democratic Committee since its June 2017 Reorganization Meeting, the Committee voted resoundingly (47 yea vs 4 nay with 1 abstention) to rescind the vote electing Tiffanie Fisher as Chair. With the chairmanship vacant, the Committee overwhelmingly elected long-time Democratic Committeeman and 1st Vice-Chair, Phil Cohen as the party’s new Chair.
“I thank the members of the Democratic Committee for their support and look forward to accomplishing our goals of electing Democratic leaders, growing the party, and promoting Democratic values in Hudson County and across the State,” said Phil Cohen. “As we saw during the tremendous turnouts during the March for Our Lives last month in Hoboken and throughout the nation, people are energized to tackle the big issues facing our community. I look forward to leading the city-wide committee of 80 Hoboken Democratic Committee people get to work, build the party and get things done.”
Other leadership changes this evening included the election of Nora DeBenedetto to fill the vacancy of 1st Vice-Chair. (Ms. DeBenedetto previously served as 2nd Vice-Chair), and the election of Eileen Carvahlo as 2nd Vice-Chair.
“We are approaching some of the most important Mid-Term elections in recent memory and it is important that we have a local Party that is cohesive and working seamlessly with Mayor Bhalla, a prominent leader of the State’s Democratic Party,” said Cohen. “I am honored to help lead our local Democratic Party and be a part of the change our State and Country need.”
In the coming months, the Hoboken Democratic Committee will be hosting a number of events in preparation for the upcoming November 2018 Midterm Elections. Some of the events include hosting in Hoboken Andy Kim, the Democratic candidate for Congress in NJ-3 against incumbent Republican Tom McArthur, as well as other Congressional candidates in hotly contested swing districts in New Jersey, which are key battlegrounds in stopping President Trump’s agenda and turning Congress from “red to blue”.
