House Passes Gottheimer Provision to Invest in Critical Broadband Infrastructure — to Help Underserved Communities

Provision increases investment for the FCC broadband infrastructure grant program

More families now working and learning online from home

WASHINGTON – On Friday, July 31, 2020, the House passed bipartisan legislation that included U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s (NJ-5) provision to increase investment in broadband infrastructure to help address the challenges facing unserved and underserved areas, especially as more families are increasingly working, learning, and socializing online. The provision increases investment in the FCC broadband infrastructure grant program.

“Residents throughout North Jersey and our nation know how critical fast and reliable internet is for our families, businesses, and communities. We’ve seen during the pandemic how the internet has kept us connected to work, school, telehealth, and to family and friends from afar,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “From small businesses working to recover, to our schools and students, making sure we have access to affordable high-speed broadband is critical to both getting through this difficult time and competing in today’s global economy. By passing my legislation today, we are another step closer to making the investments in broadband infrastructure that our communities need.”
