HPAE statement on the appointment of Carole Johnson as the new president and CEO of UH

EMERSON — “HPAE congratulates Carole Johnson on her appointment as the next President and Chief-Executive-Officer of University Hospital in Newark. We urge her to build a collaborative relationship with the employees and the community to ensure University Hospital continues to serve its mission as the only public hospital in New Jersey. We are optimistic that with her extensive experience and leadership in public service she will continue to move forward UH’s much overdue $1.8B multi-year expansion and modernization plan.

“HPAE is especially encouraged by Johnson's work as a former New Jersey Commissioner of Human Services before she joined the Federal Government. During her tenure she was a strong advocate for patients, improving access to healthcare coverage for thousands of New Jerseyans.

“We look forward to working with her as she begins her new leadership role to ensure that University Hospital remains a thriving Level One Trauma Center for our patients and a prominent Medical Teaching Facility to train future generations of healthcare workers.”
