Hudson County Commissioner Jerry Walker Secures $52,000 Public Safety Grant to Combat Gang Activity

Hudson County, NJ — Hudson County Commissioner Jerry Walker has successfully secured a $52,000 public safety grant aimed at curbing gang activity and improving community safety throughout Jersey City. The funding will support targeted prevention, intervention, and outreach initiatives in partnership with the community-based organization Caring and Capable Hands.

The grant will be used to implement proactive programs focused on youth engagement, conflict prevention, and neighborhood-based safety strategies designed to reduce gang involvement and street-level violence. By investing in early intervention and community support, the initiative seeks to address the root causes of gang activity while strengthening trust between residents and local partners.

“Public safety starts with prevention, resources, and strong community partnerships,” said Hudson County Commissioner Jerry Walker. “This funding allows us to take a proactive approach by working directly with organizations that are already making a meaningful impact on our streets. Caring and Capable Hands has a proven track record of serving our most vulnerable residents, and together we are committed to creating safer neighborhoods for everyone.”

Caring and Capable Hands will lead the implementation of programming funded by the grant, leveraging its experience in community outreach, mentorship, and support services. The organization will work closely with local stakeholders to ensure the funds are used effectively and reach those most at risk.

“We are better together than apart, which is why I believe in building strong partnerships,” said Celeste Williams of Caring and Capable Hands. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to protecting our communities, supporting our youth, and creating safer, more resilient neighborhoods.”

Commissioner Walker emphasized that this grant is part of a broader effort to prioritize public safety, invest in prevention, and ensure communities have the tools and resources needed to thrive.
