Jersey City, NJ- Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and Bayonne Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski applauded Governor Mikie Sherrill's nomination of Bayonne resident Michael Embrich to lead New Jersey’s Office of the Veteran Advocate.
A Navy veteran and longtime advocate for veterans and military families, Embrich has dedicated his career to public service at the local, state, and federal levels. His nomination reflects Hudson County residents’ longstanding tradition of service to our state and nation.
Upon graduation from Bayonne High School in 2000, Embrich served four years active duty aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Unit Citation, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal, among others.
Following his military service, Embrich began a career in public service and veterans’ advocacy. He held senior leadership positions in the New Jersey General Assembly, including serving as a Chief of Staff, and helped advocate for the passage of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. He later served as Deputy Chief of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army and as an alternate to the U.S. Treasury Taxpayer Advocate for New Jersey.
If confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate, Embrich will become only the second Bayonne resident, following former Mayor Joe Doria, to serve in a Governor’s Cabinet. His appointment would also mark a historic milestone as New Jersey’s first Veteran Advocate.

Embrich’s family’s roots in Hudson County stretch back generations. His family opened the original Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken and his great-grandfather served on the Jersey City Police Department’s first motorcycle squad. That legacy of service continued through Michael’s military service and career advocating for veterans.
