HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG GUY STATEMENT ON POSSIBLE BUS RAPID TRANSIT ROUTE ON JFK BOULEVARD

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Today, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy released the following statement regarding a possible Bus Rapid Transit route on JFK Boulevard:

“Making Hudson County’s streets safer for pedestrians, bikers, and motorists has been a priority since day one of my administration. Whether it’s launching the Hudson County Vision Zero Action Plan, implementing common sense safety improvements on county roads, or greenlighting a shared use path on the 14th Street Viaduct, I am proud of our work to increase safe mobility for all.

“Making our streets safer includes improving public transit options in Hudson County. During my campaign for Hudson County Executive, I pledged to lead the efforts to determine the feasibility of Bus Rapid Transit on county roads, including JFK Boulevard. Earlier this year, Hudson County applied to conduct a “bus study” with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.

“But I realize an issue like this cannot wait. When it comes to improving road safety and increasing transit options, time is of the essence. I have instructed my team to devise a mockup of what JFK Boulevard could look like if Bus Rapid Transit was employed on this major north-south artery. This mockup would allow residents to visualize both the benefits and possible challenges of dedicated bus lanes and how the road would need to function differently to execute this innovative transportation system option.

"Of course, this initiative will take cooperation - from municipalities, NJ Transit, planning agencies, and advocates. As County Executive, I am committed to working together to make sure our roadways are efficient and safe throughout all of Hudson County.”
