WHEN: Thursday, March 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM
WHERE: Willing Heart Community Care Center, located at 555 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Newark

On Thursday, March 15, Independent Monitor of the Newark Police Division, Peter Harvey, and the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice will host a community forum to discuss the Independent Monitoring Team’s Third Quarterly Report. The conversation will occur from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Willing Heart Community Care Center, located at 555 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Newark.

“It is imperative that the Newark community remains involved in the Consent Decree process,” said Harvey. “It is my hope that community discussions like this one will encourage more dialogue and collaboration between Newark residents and their Police Division. I look forward to discussing the Third Quarterly Report.”

The Independent Monitoring Team’s Quarterly Reports are meant to update the public on the City of Newark and the Newark Police Division’s progress with Consent Decree tasks.  The Third Quarterly Report, released on January 15, 2018, covers the reporting period of June 1, 2017 through September 30, 2017. Please read the Third Quarterly Report here.

In 2016, a federal court approved a panel of experts — led by Harvey — to serve as the Independent Monitoring Team of the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Police Division, in accordance with a settlement reached between the Department of Justice and the City of Newark.
