INDIVISIBLE NJ 4TH DISTRICT HOSTS MEET THE CANDIDATES SERIES

Three candidates for the June 2018 congressional Democratic primary will speak at the forum-style events.

LINCROFT, N.J., (January 7, 2017) – Indivisible NJ 4th District, in partnership with Indivisible Two Rivers, The Greater Red Bank Women’s Initiative, and Allentown-Upper Freehold Indivisible, will host a Meet the Candidates series this winter. The events, which are open to the public, aim to acquaint voters with the district’s three Democratic candidates for Congress: Jim Keady, Josh Welle, and Mike Keeling.

“We are committed to helping our membership and the public make an informed decision about the three candidates seeking victory in the June 2018 Democratic primary,” said Kevin Akey, Indivisible NJ 4th District steering committee member. “Attendees at this ‘town hall’ style event will have the chance to receive answers to their questions, voice their concerns, and hear about the candidates’ priorities.”

The first Meet the Candidates night will take place on January 25 and will feature Jim Keady, a grassroots activist and advocate, small business owner, and Spring Lake resident. Josh Welle, a veteran, educator, and software company founder and Manasquan resident, will speak on February 22. The final event on March 22 will feature Mike Keeling, the son of a union insulator, a public school teacher and veteran who resides in Asbury Park.

In addition to answering audience questions, candidates will describe their qualifications for office, their motivation for running, and positions on important issues. The candidates have agreed to refrain from speaking ill of or attacking their fellow primary runners. Audience members asking questions will also be asked to refrain from speaking ill of or attacking the candidates.

Keady, Welle, and Keeling will also address how they intend to defeat Congressman Chris Smith in the November congressional election. Rep. Smith, who has represented New Jersey’s 4th congressional district since 1981, has not hosted a constituent town hall in over two decades.

The primary election for the U.S. House of Representatives will take place on June 5, 2018. The deadline for registering to vote in the June primary election is May 15th. Those voters who wish to change their party affiliation must do so by April 11th. Individuals who wish to participate in the primary but are not registered or want to change party affiliation can visit the NJ Division of Elections: http://www.njelections.org/voting-information.html <http://www.njelections.org/voting-information.html>
