Introducing Mark Madonia and Zack Geltzeiler, Your Republican Candidates for Hightstown Council

The Hightstown Republican Committee is excited to introduce the two candidates who have decided to take the lead and run for the contested council seats! Our current elected officials have let spending and deficits run rampant, failed to develop solutions for the citizens and lacked transparency in all of their dealings. It’s time for a change, time for honest men who will listen to your concerns and take real action to drive successful results. Mark Madonia and Zachary Geltzeiler will be the voice of the citizens!

Mark Madonia, 64, has resided in Hightstown since May of 1988. A traditional Main Street, a wonderful school system and a love of history drew Mark to the Borough. But ultimately, it was the small town atmosphere that made him fall in love with Hightstown.

From the many shops and eateries downtown who are always hosting local bands, to the Historical Society Museum; events such as the Memorial Day parade where we honor the great men and women who served our nation, the Youth Fishing Derby at Peddie Lake or the Hightstown Family Fair, the charm of this community was where he wanted to raise his family. Mark has always held a deep desire to serve and give back to his community. Mark joined Hightstown Engine Company No.1 as a volunteer firefighter just a month after moving to town, holding both line and executive positions within the unit, and continues to serve to this day. He has also been a volunteer EMT for the Hightstown First Aid Squad. Mark has seen a damper put on the glow of Hightstown. The increase in taxes and utilities, the lack of transparency from local officials, increased traffic concerns affecting the safety of drivers and pedestrians and underdevelopment of valuable property are just some of the key issues that need to be resolved. Mark has chosen to run for council to bring real solutions to the table. “My goal is to bring Hightstown back to its full potential. Let’s improve Hightstown together!”

Zachary Geltzeiler, 30, has been a resident of Hightstown for a few years now, moving to the Borough in late 2022. Zack grew up in Jackson, NJ in your run of the mill middle class family. A participant in numerous sports, Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout rank, religious ministries and excelling scholastically, he always strived to be an over achiever in anything he was tasked. Zack graduated from Christian

Brothers Academy in 2012 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2016. Upon returning to NJ after college, faced with a difficult job market, he bounced around in a few different occupations until finally landing with a large gas station and convenience store chain, where he currently works as a General Manager. With the purchase of his first home, Zack chose Hightstown for the incredible schools, the fantastic street walkability, the beautiful historic gems in our town, the tight knit community; all of the greatest qualities for raising a family in his future. However, over the past several years, rising property taxes, utility bills and population coupled with a decline in educational standards, public services and general safety, prompted Zack to attempt to discover the shortfalls. This was only met by a stark realization the local government had no answers, ever, for anything.

Zack understands that many residents are facing the same issues he is, and wants to hear from every one of them. “In our small town, we have to put the big party politics aside and focus on the needs of our fellow citizens. I want to know what matters most to you. And I will do everything in my power to deliver results for the people.”

Former Councilwoman and Hightstown’s Republican Committee Chair Skye Gilmartin comments,”We have spent the last year revitalizing GOP in Hightstown. This has resulted in two great candidates for Council. They represent diversity in age and background, but share the same desire to run a citizen driven campaign focused on safety and transparency. This is evident in the survey they are using to kickstart their campaign.”
