Jersey City Teacher Seeks to End the Payne Dynasty in Congress

John J. Flora, an award-winning educator and environmental activist, is registered as an
official candidate for the United States House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – 8/29/2019

John Flora is running as a progressive alternative to the Democratic incumbent Donald Payne Jr.
An award-winning S.T.E.A.M. educator, GRAMMY-nominated music specialist, and father of two,
Flora’s campaign slogan is “United by Our Future.” It suits his platform, which is focused on the
Green New Deal, Medicare for All, gun reform, and universal-pre-K.

New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District encompasses portions of seventeen municipalities in
three different counties: Essex, Hudson, and Union. Flora is vying to become the first
representative for this district from Hudson County in over a century. The seat has been
occupied for three decades by a father and his son (Donald M. Payne 1989-2012 and Donald
Payne Jr. 2012-present).

In his first campaign ad, Flora calls out the incumbent for having poor
voting attendance and being unproductive when compared to the New Jersey delegation. The
campaign committee, Friends of John Flora, is intentionally soliciting small individual
contributions in contrast to Donald Payne Jr.’s reliance on PACs.

John submitted his Statement of Committee and Candidate Forms with the FEC on June 28th . The
campaign website is www.floraforcongress.com and links to social media.
