Justice for Hasani Best Protest Scheduled for September 11th in Asbury Park
One Year After his Body is Laid to Rest – Still No Justice
(Asbury Park – September 9, 2021) – The family of Hasani Best, Advocates and Community Members will be gathering to decry the lack of accountability for the Officer who shot Hasani Best to death in Asbury Park. The gathering will take place on September 11th which is significant as it was the day Hasani’s body was laid to rest one year ago.
Kenisha White, with whom Hasani had their son Dayvon, said “September 11th marks one of the greatest tragedies in our nation’s history but also marks the day we laid Hasani Best’s body in the ground.” White continued “this date marks one year of anguish, one year of pain and we will continue to suffer until we get justice.” White described Hasani Best as “a simple man with a vision to care for his children.”
Asbury Park Community members and several organizations alongside Hasani Best’s family have called the shooting  unjustified and demanded the arrest of Officer Sean DeShader in addition to other reforms. The police homicide of Best was the third police involved shooting in a five year period in the small shore town, with James Manzo being shot to death by Officer James Crawford 15 months earlier. Lastly, Tamara Seidle was shot to death by her husband, Neptune Township Officer Philip Seidel in 2015 with a uniformed Asbury Park Police Officer (Ofc. Love) on scene who did not intervene.
An Action Alert has been created for those who wish to send a message to the Governor, Attorney General and Elected Officials calling for Justice for Hasani. The Action Alert can be accessed here: https://www.congressweb.com/HNH/3?utm_source=BenchmarkEmail&utm_campaign=Justice_for_Hasani_Best_-_Join_us_in_Asbury_Park_this_Saturday!&utm_medium=email#/3/
The protest is suitable for all ages and families. The protest will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Asbury Park Post Office located at 801 Bangs Avenue in Asbury Park on September 11, 2021.
