Kamens & Associates Managing Member Quoted On National Financial News Platform

Seth Kamens, CPA, MBA, Managing Member at Kamens & Associates was recently featured in U.S. News & World Report – Multifaceted Digital Media

The article, “Expert Answers to 20 Common Tax Questions in 2026,” discussed how to file your return, claim the biggest tax breaks, avoid scams and complete any tax filing tasks.

Kamens spoke on the key concern for those who are self-employed and deducted portions of mortgage interest, utilities, and homeowners’ insurance. He explained, “You can no longer use (the deduction) as a W-2 employee,” highlighting that only self-employed individuals can deduct their home office expenses if they use part of their home “regularly and exclusively” for business.

Kamen further clarified, ‘There is a caveat, though, while you can claim a home office deduction if you're self-employed, that could affect your cost basis when it comes time to sell your home. You might be saving (taxes) now, but it may lead to more capital gains later.”
