Kim Guadagno Reports $1.5 Million Cash-On-Hand, Challenges Murphy To Cap General Election Spending

West Long Branch, NJ – Guadagno for Governor today announced it has raised more than $2.2 million since January and will report more than $1.5 million cash-on-hand as of the May 5 reporting deadline. The campaign also issued a challenge to the Phil Murphy campaign to cap General Election spending at $13.8 million.

“We’ve seen this movie before when a Goldman Sachs executive just like Phil Murphy spent millions of his Wall Street fortune to try and buy the Governor’s Office. Jon Corzine won, but New Jersey lost with massive unemployment and higher taxes,” said Dave Huguenel, Kim Guadagno’s campaign manager. “New Jerseyans deserve better. We challenge Phil Murphy or whoever wins their primary to agree to a spending cap so the race is focused on the issues New Jerseyans care about most like affordability and lower taxes.”

After spending over 20 years working at Goldman Sachs and buying a plush ambassadorship as a wealthy campaign donor to President Obama, Phil Murphy has poured over $10 million of his personal fortune in his campaign for governor during the primary. He has been attacked by his fellow Democrats for being “much worse than Corzine,” another Goldman Sachs alumnus who famously spent over $130 million to finance three statewide campaigns.

The primary election is being held on June 6, 2017.
