Labor to Labor Walks in Piscataway

Labor to Labor Walks in Piscataway for Town Council Members Espinosa, Carmichael and Lombardi
(Piscataway) Councilman Dennis Espinosa (Ward 2), Councilwoman Sharon Carmichael (Ward 3) and
Councilwoman Michele Lombardi (Ward 4) are honored to earn the endorsement of the Middlesex and
Somerset Counties Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Together the council members and union members are
out knocking on doors in Piscataway.
Espinosa, Carmichael and Lombardi are all from union families and are strong supporters of the hard working
families in Piscataway. They support workers’ rights to organize, negotiate fair contracts and earn a good
living wage. They do not believe in the outsourcing of public sector jobs and understand that privatization
does not work. “This endorsement is a great honor and something that our Democratic team is extremely
proud of,” said Councilman Dennis Espinosa who along with Piscataway Democratic Organization Chair
Gabrielle Cahill helped kick off the labor-to-labor walks for the team this morning.
Espinosa, Carmichael and Lombardi are good stewards of residents’ tax dollars, ensuring that Piscataway has
an AA+ stable bond rating and top credit score all while providing excellent public services. Piscataway
township has the second-lowest taxes in Middlesex County. “We are strong supporters of working people and
Piscataway prides itself on being a diverse, unifying township for all,” said Councilwoman Sharon
Carmichael. “Our township workers are members of the community. They demonstrate care and pride in the
work they are doing to make our town the best place to live and raise a family,” Carmichael continued.
Council President Michele Lombardi spoke about the many projects that contributed to the endorsement. “Our
Community Center was built with 100% Union labor and the install of solar on government buildings was also
completed with 100% Union labor,” said Councilwoman Lombardi. This team supports worker friendly
solutions to climate change and extreme weather events with specialized equipment for clean-up and for
worker safety. The team also supported RWJUH Nurses and Rutgers Professors with resolutions.
“I am so proud of our Piscataway Democratic Organization team. Dennis! Sharon and Michele roll up their
sleeves and do the work to keep Piscataway moving in the right direction. They are the Democrats who deliver
real results for all Piscataway families,” said Piscataway Democratic Chair Gabrielle Cahill.
