Lance Calls For DACA/Border Security Debate in House

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today signed a discharge petition calling for a debate and vote on a series of immigration reform bills languishing in the U.S. House.  Lance is the first N.J. Republican to lend his name to this effort.

“Today I signed a discharge petition to allow a series of DACA solutions and border security measures to come to the floor of the House for a debate and vote.  President Trump ended President Obama’s executive immigration order last September and requested that Congress pass a constitutional long-term plan to strengthen border security and end uncertainty for the DACA population.  It is past time we meet that task.”

The discharge petition signed by Lance would trigger votes on four separate immigration bills addressing DACA and border security, with a “queen-of-the-Hill” approach. That means the proposal getting the most votes over 218 would be adopted by the House. If there is a tie, the last legislation voted on would be adopted.

A discharge petition can be brought up only on the first and third Monday of the month when the House is in session. June 25 is the next time the House is in session on one of those Mondays.

“President Trump gave us a deadline to act on DACA and that deadline has passed without any meaningful action on immigration. It’s time for a debate and a vote in the House of Representatives,” concluded Lance.
