Lance Statement on Gateway Funding Included in Omnibus Spending Measure

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) released the following statement upon the release of the legislative text for the fiscal year 2018 omnibus legislation, which includes $540 million in funding for the Gateway project and outlines a process to earn $2.9 billion more in federal support.

“Our facts are resonating.  Many powerful voices did not want to see this project advance.  But those who wanted Gateway funding completely eliminated lost the argument.  The Gateway Tunnel and Portal Bridge projects are, in part, federal responsibilities.  The federal government needs to be a partner in this major national infrastructure project that is critical to the economy of the entire nation. This is a down payment on a shared federal commitment.”

Lance helped lead the effort in the House to secure critical funding for Gateway project:
1. Lance spearheaded meeting with Speaker Ryan.
2. Lance led fight against North Carolina tunnel opponent Rep. Ted Budd.
3. Lance met with WH Legislative Director Marc Short Monday to push for funding for the tunnel project.
