Clears Assembly Committee

Measure Applies to New Jersey Veterans and Military Personnel

(TRENTON) – A measure that would provide free admission to State parks, beaches and forests for New Jersey veterans and active duty military personnel residing or stationed in the state cleared the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee Thursday.

The bill (A-834) is sponsored by Assembly Democrats R. Bruce Land (D-Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland) and Matthew Milam (D-Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland) who issued the following statements:

“Our state’s veterans and military service personnel have earned and deserve to have complimentary entrance into New Jersey’s parks, beaches and forests. While we could never repay them for the numerous sacrifices that they have made for our country, we can take steps to let them know that they are not forgotten. As a former sergeant in the U.S. Army, I can bear witness that such acts of kindness go a long way in making the men and women serving our country feel more appreciated.”

“While the current state statute calls for complimentary admission for active military service members of the National Guard, as well as those totally disabled and service members age 62 and older, this measure extends the courtesy to active service members in all of the U.S. Armed Forces including the reserves. By making this amendment to the current law, additional active service members can take advantage of New Jersey’s 28 breathtaking state parks, 11 wondrous forests and the state beaches along 130 miles of our coastline.”
