| TRENTON, N.J. – The three lawmakers from the 23rd Legislative District are concerned about the lack of vaccines for patients at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Basking Ridge, as well as other institutions that serve cancer patients, and have reached out to state officials to ask that they take action.
State Sen. Michael Doherty and Assemblymen John DiMaio and Erik Peterson reported that they have received numerous complaints from constituents under care at the hospital.
“Our constituents and their concerned families are understandably unhappy about the lack of vaccines available to the patients,” said DiMaio (R-Warren). “Hearing some of the stories of patients unable to get a vaccine anywhere in New Jersey is just heart wrenching.”
“The risk factors for cancer patients are bad enough but many of them are also in their seventies,” added Peterson (R-Hunterdon). “Getting them the vaccine gives them one less thing to worry about.”
Additionally, Doherty (R-Warren) wrote directly to Gov. Phil Murphy about his concerns.
The legislators emphasized that the state immediately should prioritize and provide vaccines to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and other institutions that serve cancer patients who are more at risk of the coronavirus.
