Local Housing Coalition Throws Support Behind Stroud In Neptune Democratic Primary Race

The Incumbent Committeeman grabs the support of Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition.

(APRIL 9, 2024) –NEPTUNE, NJ– Neptune Democratic Committeeman Derel Stroud landed the support of a local housing advocacy group on Thursday. This marks the first endorsement of this year’s primary contest, as Stroud faces a challenge in the June 4th election. The Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition is composed of a group of volunteers who advocate for fair and quality housing for all. The group is led by community leader, co-Founder Tracy Rogers who also serves on the Asbury Park Board of Education.

“At a time when Asbury Park residents needed leadership, Mr. Stroud was there and led the call to action, and disregarded the normal response of just blaming the property owners and called for strict enforcement which helped in getting tenants heat restored.” Rogers said.

The criticism came in response to the constant outcry for inspections and repairs at local housing units like Stephen Manor, and Comstock Court, a senior residence facility which lacked things like heat and hot water in the early winter months.

Stroud was recently appointed to the township committee in February, as Former Mayor Nick Williams resigned due to health reasons. His term was to end on December 31, 2024 in which Stroud will need to run for a new 3-year term. Stroud who currently serves as an Advisor to Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman echoed Roger’s comments; “In many cases there seems to be one set of rules for big developers, and vendors-another for residents, that simply needs to stop.”

“The political climate that we are faced with demonstrates the need for strong, transparent, and dedicated leaders. I am running to continue to be a voice for those that feel unheard. I am grateful to the Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition for their support and continued advocacy on behalf of those who are otherwise left behind. We must elect the type of leaders that prioritize the needs of the people.” said Stroud.
