Lopez, Booker to Outline Federal, State Legislation Reforming the Way Women are Treated Behind Bars

            (TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez and U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) will hold a closed round table discussion with criminal justice reform advocates and formally incarcerated women to discuss legislation Lopez is introducing, modeled after legislation Booker introduced in the Senate, to reform the way women are treated behind bars. “I am eager to have an open dialogue and hear concerns from incarcerated caregivers,” said Lopez (D-Middlesex). “As a mother, the idea of being the primary caregiver for my child and having limited access to them is unimaginable. In hearing from these parents and caregivers, we hope to aid in making the transition as well as inmates’ time away from their children as positive for everyone involved during a difficult time in their lives.”
