Washington, D.C. – Earlier this week, Congressman Tom MacArthur spoke with and took questions from over 250 middle school students at Southampton Township School #3.  The discussion focused on the legislative process and the responsibilities of a congressman.

“Two of my grandparents were school superintendents, my mother was a librarian and I studied education as an undergraduate. I have a deep respect for educators and our public school system,” said Rep. MacArthur.  “I enjoyed speaking with these students about the legislative process and my experience as a congressman.  They all asked very informative questions and I hope I was able to provide the students with a better understanding of how Congress works.”

 “He seems like a good guy,” said student, Nina Valeriano. “I really enjoyed meeting him.  It was pretty cool having a U.S. Congressman come and speak to us!”

“It was a real thrill and a privilege to have the Congressman come to our school,” said Social Studies teacher, Seth Munoz. “His presentation served as a wonderful culminating event about the unit of study on How A Bill Becomes A Law.”

 “It is not every day that a United States Congressman visits a school district,” said Superintendent of Schools, Michael Harris.  “So, we feel honored and privileged that Congressman MacArthur took the time out of his busy schedule to address our middle school students about his responsibilities and experience. His presence spoke volumes about his interest and commitment to public education. This was a unique and outstanding learning experience for our students about how our government works.”
