Majority of Former Candidates Endorse Gusciora in Runoff
Trenton, NJ – Mercer County Deputy Clerk Walker Worthy Jr, and Trenton City Councilman Duncan Harrison Jr. have both fully endorsed their former opponent. Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Trenton) took home the second highest number of votes on May 8th. Since then, three other candidates, at least a dozen local groups, and countless Trenton voters have thrown their support behind the long-serving Trenton democrat. Only one of the original seven candidates has backed his opponent.
Worthy took home just over 18% of the vote in May, and his support will undoubtedly impact the race for the Assemblyman. Worthy stated that – “I have known this man for 30 years: And this man has integrity.” The Deputy clerk continued, saying that Gusciora was the “seasoned and experienced candidate, to navigate us through our problems.” Walker concluded his endorsement speech stating that Trenton “doesn’t have time to experiment” with less qualified men.
The Assemblyman has served the Trenton community for over two decades. Winning over a dozen local elections with Trenton being his primary electorate.
Trenton Councilman, Duncan Harrison Jr. brought in almost 10% of the total vote during the general election. The city councilman stressed that he was endorsing Gusciora to be the next mayor of our state capitol. Harrison Jr. argued that “the city needs someone who is qualified, competent, and committed.”- and continued to highlight Gusciora’s fight for a new Trenton High School.
He shirked off any ‘establishment’ denigration, clarifying that they represented “the people.”
“Come join us” began Asm. Gusciora, stating that it was now their duty “to make sure that Trenton was a better city for the next four years.” Reed Gusciora made sure to give thanks to the attending members of the Latino Merchant’s Association. The organization represents over 80 local Latino businesses, and officially endorsed the Gusciora campaign earlier this week.
The backing comes a day after former contender Annette Lartigue pledged her support for Reed. Mr. Perez has had only had a single democrat approve his second attempt to become Mayor. Gusciora’s opponent has never won an election, and has never been a public servant.
The runoff takes place on June 12th.
