Make the Road Action in NJ Calls for Immediate Passage of Drivers License Legislation in Lame Duck
Drivers License Key Priority for Latinx voters in New Jersey
Lorenza Garcia — leader of the grassroots, membership based immigrant and Latinx organization Make the Road Action NJ, whose members engaged in races across the state, including door knocking that reached 5,000 voters, including Latinx voters and voters of color issued the following statement:
“The New Jersey state legislature remains firmly blue and must act now to support immigrant communities across our state. As the Latinx vote in New Jersey grows rapidly – by 104% in the past 5 years, it is urgent that the state legislature address our key demand: they must pass legislation that will expand access to drivers licenses for all qualified drivers in New Jersey, without delay, this lame duck period. Make the Road Action knocked on doors to reach 5,000 voters this cycle, and access to drivers licenses was the number one priority of Latinx voters in New Jersey. While the federal government increases attacks on immigrant communities, New Jersey can stand up to ensure our roads are safer and our families are no longer separated. Today, hundreds of immigrants will rally in Trenton to urge expansion of drivers licenses. We look forward to working with the state legislature on this key priority.”
