Make the Road New Jersey’s Statement on Gov. Christie’s Conditional Veto to Increase Penalties for Employers’ Failure to Pay Wages

Elizabeth- Make the Road New Jersey member, Felix Lema, made the following statement in response to Governor Christie’s conditional veto to increase penalties for employers failure to pay wages:

“Governor Christie’s conditional veto of A5072 today is a slap in the face of working people and honest employers everywhere. A5072 would ensure that the law no longer rewards unscrupulous employers for exploiting their workers by paying subminimum wages. It will create a level playing field in New Jersey and ensure that employers are not put at a disadvantage when they pay an honest wage. We look forward to standing with our sponsors Assemblywoman Quijano, Senator Weinberg and Gov-Elect Murphy to strengthen the rights of workers and create a fair economy for all – we can’t wait another day.”
