Mayor Al Smith to Join Bill Spadea on New Jersey 101.5 on June 5

Mayor Al Smith will join Bill Spadea on his New Jersey 101.5 radio show on Wednesday, June 5 at approximately 8:05am to discuss affordable housing reform.

Since 2015, Court-mandated affordable housing obligations have imposed high density developments on many towns throughout New Jersey causing overdevelopment and creating challenges in the areas of infrastructure, public transportation, schools, traffic, open space, and municipal services that are not adequately addressed in the current process.

The Scotch Plains Affordable Housing Advisory Committee recently endorsed a set of four state legislative bills to end the costly, inefficient and inconsistent court mandated affordable housing process currently being imposed on municipalities by instituting a State legislative committee that will provide affordable housing to those who need it while protecting taxpayers and the residential character of our communities.

Mayor Smith will join Bill Spadea to discuss the problems with the current court-mandated affordable housing process and the need for taxpayers across the state to unite and engage the Legislature and the Governor in demanding legislative reforms regarding municipal affordable housing obligations.

“I am honored to join Bill on his show to discuss this critical issue and the need for reform,” said Mayor Al Smith.
“Bill and his team are committed to exposing the truth and explaining the issues to the average taxpaying New Jerseyan, and I look forward to working with Bill and others to finally get movement in the State Legislature on affordable housing reform.”

Mayor Al Smith is serving his third year as Mayor of Scotch Plains. He is the Chairman of the Scotch Plains Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. He is working on a bipartisan basis with residents and fellow Mayors to get the State Legislature to pass affordable housing reform legislation.

Bill Spadea is the host of the morning drive show on New Jersey 101.5 every weekday from 6:00am to 10:00am. He is also the host of Chasing News, which airs weeknights on Fox Television in New York and Philly. Bill has been a political strategist, analyst, candidate for office and business executive. Before getting into media, he served as an executive in the real estate industry for 18 years.
