Mayor Gusciora Requests Additional Trenton Drop Boxes for November 2020 General Election

Trenton, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today asked the Mercer County Board of Elections to add five additional secure drop boxes within Trenton in preparation for the upcoming general election on Nov. 3, 2020.

“During the July 2020 primary election, there was only one secure drop box in the entire Capital City,” said Mayor Gusciora. “Now more than ever, we need to make voting more accessible for our residents, and Trenton’s population density, geographic location and transportation limitations make it an obvious choice for additional drop boxes in the upcoming general election.”

Though Trenton constitutes roughly 23 percent of the county’s total population, its residents face more challenges in accessing affordable and efficient transportation options than residents in neighboring municipalities. There was only one drop box located at 209 S. Broad Street during the July 7, 2020 primary.

Mayor Gusciora has requested that the Mercer County Board of Elections consider the following locations for additional drop boxes:

  • 400 Chambers Street, Trenton, N.J. 08609 (Trenton Central High School)

  • 1300 Stuyvesant Avenue, Trenton, N.J. 08618 (Joyce Kilmer School)

  • 875 New Willow Street, Trenton, N.J. 08638 (Mayor Donnelly Homes)

  • 340 Reverend S. Howard Woodson Jr. Way, Trenton, N.J. 08618 (Shiloh Baptist Church)

  • 440 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Trenton, N.J. 08618 (Galilee Baptist Church)

The proposal to install five additional drop boxes in Trenton aligns with Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 177, which requires each county to place at least 10 secure ballot drop boxes at locations based on geographic location and population density.
