MAYOR SAYEGH APPOINTS CHRISTIAN CALLEGARI 

AS ACTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Paterson, NJ – On July 10, 2023, Mayor Andre Sayegh announced the appointment of Christian Callegari as the Acting Economic Development Director for the City of Paterson. Callegari will oversee economic development initiatives in this temporary role while the City performs a thorough search for a new director. He will officially assume the position on August 1, 2023.

As a first-generation American born and raised in Paterson, Christian Callegari brings a deep connection to the City and a profound understanding of its unique challenges and opportunities. Callegari holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Felician University, a Master's in the same field from Rutgers University, and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law. He has served as Chief of Staff to Mayor Sayegh since November 2021.

Before joining the City of Paterson, Christian Callegari served as the Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Gary Schaer in Legislative District 36. In that capacity, he played an instrumental role in drafting and passing crucial legislation requiring the removal of all lead service lines in New Jersey within a 10-year timeframe.

The Department of Economic Development is responsible for establishing Paterson as an economic powerhouse in the Northern New Jersey region, aiming to enhance the quality of life for all residents, workers, and visitors. Working in collaboration with Mayor Andre Sayegh, his administration, and the City Council, the department is dedicated to developing an economic vision ensuring Paterson's sustainable and prosperous future.

Callegari has showcased exemplary leadership and strategic insight in his current role as Chief of Staff. He has led key initiatives for Mayor Sayegh, including communications efforts, government and private grant funding opportunities, sustainability programs, and shared services conversations with other public entities. Additionally, he has played a vital role alongside the Business Administrator in stewarding the City's relationship with the oversight monitors from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
