McKeon on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling to Halt Census Counting Early
(TRENTON) – In response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing the Trump Administration to end Census counting on October 15, 2020, Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris) issued the following statement:
“Shame on the United States Supreme Court for their failure to uphold Article I, Section II of the U.S. Constitution, which requires every person be counted by the Census.
“The decision could cost our state billions of dollars over the next decade and potentially a congressional seat. There isn’t a person who lives in New Jersey, regardless of party affiliation or political philosophy, who shouldn’t be expressing outrage.
“Between a lack of federal resources proportionate to our population’s tax burden and the cap on the federal SALT deduction, our citizens are once again underserved.”
