Measure Clears Assembly, Looks to Localize National Recognition

(TRENTON) – Looking to localize and amplify National Financial Literacy Month, which is being recognized this month across the nation, Assembly Democrats Angela V. McKnight (D-Hudson), Britnee Timberlake (D-Essex, Passaic) and John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris) issued the following collaborative statement Friday regarding a joint resolution to permanently designate April as Financial Literacy Month in New Jersey.

The measure (AJR-118) recently cleared the Assembly 77-0-0 and now heads to the Senate for consideration:

“Money is such an integral part of our daily lives, and the more we understand how to spend it, how to save it, and how to maximize each dollar and cent, the more financially stable we will be as a society.

“This resolution will align us with the federal designation of April as Financial Literacy Month and help raise awareness of how important a financial education is for our youth.

“Permanently establishing Financial Literacy Month in New Jersey will improve the citizenry’s understanding of critical financial issues such as credit management, savings, debt management and homeownership, and will significantly increase an individual’s likelihood of financial success.”
