Mejia Sworn-in to Represent 32nd Legislative District

New Legislator is First Dominican-American Assembly Member in History of the Legislature

 

(TRENTON) – Small business owner Pedro Mejia received the oath of office from Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin on Thursday as the representative of the 32nd legislative district.

Assemblyman Mejia, the first Dominican-American to serve in the state legislature,was selected to fill in the seat left vacant by Assemblyman Vincent Prieto.

“It is a tremendous honor to join the New Jersey General Assembly and to represent the residents of District 32 in Trenton,” said Mejia. “I am ready to get to work addressing the issues important to our communities and to the state. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to improve the lives of New Jersey residents.”

Born in the Dominican Republic, Assemblyman-select Mejia immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 and became a naturalized citizen in 2000. Mejia is a small business owner in the residential real estate industry. He has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Currently, he is the owner of Mejia Corporation which helps to maintain residential properties in New Jersey.

Pedro is married to Amalia. They have three children Jaishka, Nelson, and Ashley. He and his family have resided in Secaucus for the past 11 years.
