Menendez, Booker Announce Nearly $4M to Keep NJ Communities Safe
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today announced $3,935,488 in federal funding to support state and local public safety agencies through the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). The Byrne JAG Program is designed to ensure public safety agencies have the resources to invest in training, education and mental health and drug treatment programs, and buy new technology and equipment to help better protect communities.
“This funding is critical to ensuring cities and towns across New Jersey have the resources to keep their residents, families and small businesses safe and protected,” said Sen. Menendez. “The flexibility of Byrne JAG funding allows local governments to focus on the most pressing issues facing them and can be used for post-incarceration reentry services, crime victims’ services, de-escalation training for officers, and mental health services.”
“From investing in training, education and mental health programs, to providing essential resources for communities, Byrne JAG funding is critical to the strength and safety of New Jersey’s municipalities,” said Sen. Booker. “I’m proud to announce this grant money that will give local leaders the financial flexibility they need to address their community’s most urgent issues while also helping to protect our state’s residents.”
