County Executive backs economic recovery package

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes joined leaders in government, the private sector and labor from across the state in expressing support for the New Jersey Economic Recovery Act of 2020, which was scheduled to be voted on in the Legislature today.

“I am pleased to support Governor Murphy’s economic recovery package for New Jersey,” Mr. Hughes said. “Businesses of all sizes are the backbone of our communities, and people are hurting. The ambitious collection of funding and tax credit initiatives will help to stabilize small businesses, stimulate business growth, uplift underserved communities, and expand efforts statewide to support organized labor.”

The County Executive also expressed appreciation for the assistance that struggling households and small businesses would receive through the proposed $900 billion federal stimulus bill, but said the relief package does not go far enough.

“I’m disappointed that the legislation does not include direct financial support for state and local governments,” Mr. Hughes said. “The federal government has a duty to protect the American people in times of crisis, and we need more relief than what this bill provides.”
