More Labor Endorsements Roll In for Fulop Gubernatorial Campaign

Four International Brotherhood of Teamsters Locals Representing Nearly 6,000 Active & Retired Members Endorse Fulop Campaign

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Mayor Steven Fulop is announcing that his campaign for Governor has received the endorsement of four local unions affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters that collectively represent nearly 6,000 active and retired members. Citing Mayor Fulop’s record of supporting collective bargaining rights and standing up for working families, the unions endorsing include Teamsters Local 641, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Teamsters Local 2906 and Teamsters Local 3082.

“The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is America’s largest and most diverse union, and having the support of these hardworking men and women is a testament to our campaign’s commitment to putting the interests of working families front and center,” said Mayor Fulop. “I’m so proud to see our coalition continue to build and more and more impactful leaders join our campaign because they believe in our vision of moving New Jersey forward.”

The four Teamsters locals join the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union International and New Jersey Council in supporting the Fulop for Governor campaign. The support from multiple transportation focused unions underscores Mayor Fulop’s strong policy background on mobility issues and his commitment to investing in NJ Transit and providing greater transportation options.

“Teamsters know how important it is to have strong partners in elected office, and with his long record as a public servant and consistent support for working families there is no one we can count on more as our next Governor than Steve Fulop,” said Jim Kilkenny, Local 641 President, which represents workers in trucking, warehousing, 911 dispatching, parking lot attending, refinery work and other industries.

The Fulop campaign picked up the endorsement of Warren County Democratic Chairman Tom Palmieri last week, who joined Hudson County Democratic Chairman Anthony Vainieri in pledging his support.

“Steve Fulop understands that investing in public transportation is the best way to support our economy and create more opportunities for the middle class, and the members of our union are excited to stand strong with him and help him all the way to Trenton,” said Thomas Wohanka, Vice Chairman and State Legislative Director of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division, which represents Amtrak maintenance workers.

Mayor Fulop has also been endorsed by several mayors representing communities with NJ Transit stations who have noted his experience and vision when it comes to transportation issues. They include Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle, South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum, Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, Summit Mayor Nora Radest and several others.

“The commitment that Steve Fulop has shown for funding public transportation and especially for identifying a permanent recurring revenue source for NJ Transit makes it clear that he’s the right choice to lead New Jersey forward as our next Governor,” said Local 2906 Vice Chairman and Local Legislative Delegate Frank Parell, whose union represents NJ Transit maintenance workers.

“New Jersey’s economy depends on efficiently moving people and goods to where they need to go, and no one understands that better than Mayor Fulop who has shown a true commitment to both economic development and increasing pay for middle class workers,” said Anthony Sessa, Teamsters Local 3082 General Chairperson and Assistant Legislative State Director. Local 3082 represents construction and electrical system workers on Amtrak.
