NJ Veterans Enlist the Former Marine for Duty in U.S. Senate

GIBBSTOWN, NJ ─ Marine veteran, job creator, and U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin exchanged questions and ideas for more than an hour tonight with nearly 100 veterans who joined his town hall at the VFW Post 5579 in Gibbstown.

“When you put on the uniform ─ regardless of what branch you serve ─ you understand the meaning of service. It was an honor to be with so many tonight who have served our country to hear directly from them about how I can serve them better in Washington. The military is truly the melting pot of America, and the honor of wearing the Marine insignia taught me so many lessons that I carried into my life and into this race for U.S. Senate. In the service, you don’t ignore problems, you solve them. In the service, you don’t ask someone if they are a Democrat or a Republican, or whether they agree with you on every issue. Instead, you work together as a team and you find common ground to achieve a shared goal,” Hugin told the crowd of veterans.

He was joined at the event by Mayor Dale Archer, who is also a Marine veteran, to discuss the issues and concerns of veterans and their families.

“It’s an honor to have Bob Hugin at the VFW Post 5579 in Gibbstown tonight ─ the town I grew up,” said Archer. “Every year, members of the VFW make a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with our elected officials, but every year Senator Menendez is seemingly unavailable. I’m looking forward to making the trip next year to meet with Senator Bob Hugin in Washington next year. He is a real leader who will represent our state with honor and integrity, and he will be a Senator all New Jerseyans can be proud of. As a fellow Marine, I can say without question that Marines are honest and when a Marine makes a promise, they keep that promise. Bob Hugin is a man who is true to his word. I’m confident he will deliver for us.”

The more than 400,000 veterans in New Jersey have been poorly served, said Hugin, citing the need to improve healthcare and employment services for former service people.

“Instead of reforming the Veteran Administration system to provide high-quality health care that is accessible, we have given our veterans what’s cheapest instead of what’s best. Often, our veterans have to travel to Delaware or Philadelphia by bus just to see a doctor, and sometimes these buses don’t have bathrooms,” Hugin said. “There are clinics being built, but they do not meet 100% of the needs of our veterans. The Veterans Choice program was a great idea, but it was poorly executed and the money ran out. Veterans should have access to local doctors if a clinic or hospital cannot accommodate their health needs.”

Bob Hugin, a Marine Corps Veteran and business leader who has created thousands of New Jersey jobs, is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Bob Menendez. For more information visit bobhugin.com.
