NEW JERSEY DEMOCRATS SLAM SCOTUS OPINION AND GOP CRONYISM

[Trenton] — Today, the leaders of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, Chairman John Currie and Vice Chair Lizette Delgado-Polanco, responded to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which says that public sector workers may refuse to pay their “fair share” of dues to public sector employee unions.

The case is expected to weaken collective bargaining efforts by labor groups and the ability of public sector employee unions to ensure fair compensation, demand equitable pensions, and fight for just contracts.

“This case is a gut punch by conservative forces that have systematically sought to erode the protections that public sector employees deserve,” said Currie and Delgado-Polanco in a joint statement. “It defies fundamental fairness and it is harmful. Experience tells us that strong labor organizations lead to economic growth and happier, healthier families in New Jersey.”

“We are proud of Governor Phil Murphy and his administration for standing firm against this lawsuit and with the men and women that belong to organized labor, even as Donald Trump and his enablers in the Republican Congress advance a weaker and more insecure economy — one that puts the financial interests of their cronies and rich donors before the needs of American society. This decision only underscores the importance of putting a check on a government run amok by electing Democrats across the state this November,” the New Jersey Democrats continued.
