NEWARK – On June 13, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice will celebrate its 20th anniversary at its 14th annual Gala at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark.
The evening will feature Cocktails followed by Dinner & Awards presented to the Honorees listed below.
The theme of this year’s Gala is “The Fierce Urgency of Now,” in recognition that we are living in urgent times that – more than ever – must be met with bold, unapologetically progressive work on the front lines of social justice.

Established in 1999 by Alan V. and Amy Lowenstein, the Institute is known for its dynamic and independent advocacy aimed at toppling load-bearing walls of structural inequality to create just, vibrant, and healthy urban communities. It employs a broad range of advocacy tools to advance an ambitious urban agenda, including research, writing, public education, grassroots organizing, legislation and litigation.
Using a holistic approach to addressing the unique and critical issues facing New Jersey’s urban communities, the Institute advocates for systemic reform that is at once transformative, achievable in the state, and replicable in communities across the nation.
