New Jersey LCV PAC Goes Deep to Elect Conservation Candidates
TRENTON, NJ —The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Political Action Committee (New Jersey LCV PAC) is proud to announce that it is offering dedicated on the ground organizing support from its staff to assist our environmentally endorsed candidates in battle ground districts throughout New Jersey.
“We are fully committed to fighting for our endorsed candidates in their elections to protect and preserve New Jersey’s clean water, air, and open spaces,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV PAC. “We are happy to provide on the ground organizing support, in addition to, financial support to what will be hard fought and tightly watched campaign races critical to our work to combat climate change.”
In the 2017 election cycle, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters PAC and Super PAC spent over $400,000 on endorsed candidates including gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy, a record-shattering amount by an environmental organization in New Jersey and the most of any non-labor issue organizations.
Candidates were chosen by the New Jersey LCV board after a comprehensive endorsement process to identify candidates who have demonstrated active or affirmative willingness and capacity to reliably advance New Jersey LCV’s conservation agenda of protecting and preserving precious natural resources, taking on polluters, and combating climate change.
New Jersey LCV PAC is committed to supporting endorsed candidates in select races by sending experienced field organizers to activate conservation voters in Assembly districts 2, 8, 11, 14, 25, and 26. New Jersey LCV PAC has invested embedded field organizers for endorsed candidates for the past three election cycles, and is committed to continue providing on the ground support for our environmentally committed candidates.
Assembly Districts 2 and 8. New Jersey LCV PAC field organizer Dominic Brennan will be working directly with Gina LaPlaca and Mark Natale’s campaign efforts to win seats in District 8, which covers municipalities such as Hammonton, Evesham, Lumberton, Mount Holly, and Medford. Anti-environment incumbents Assmblymen Howarth and Peters are putting polluters ahead of people in this competitive district by, among other things, opposing efforts to cleanup polluted runoff before it makes its way into our drinking water supply. Assemblyman Howarth has a dismal environmental score of just 24% on our 2017 legislative scorecard.
New Jersey LCV PAC will also be supporting Assemblymen Vince Mazzeo and John Armato in District 2, which covers municipalities such as Atlantic City, Absecon City, and Ventnor City. Both have proven their commitment to preserving their district’s clean drinking water sources, with the edge of District 2 right along the Jersey coast. Assemblyman Mazzeo champions an impressive 95% on our 2017 scorecard.
Assembly districts 11, 14, and 26. New Jersey LCV PAC field organizer Joe Hendershot will be working hard to reelect Assemblymembers Houghtaling and Downey of District 11 which includes Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Freehold Township, Long Branch, and Red Bank. With so many municipalities along the Jersey coast and sources of water, both Assemblyman Houghtaling, scoring a 90%, and Assemblywoman Downey, scoring 86%, are committed to preserving open spaces and fighting for a cleaner environment.
Joe will coordinating on the ground efforts in Districts 14 and 26. Assemblymen Benson and DeAngelo of District 14 have shown strong support for New Jersey’s clean energy goal of 100% by 2050 and the good local jobs that come with it.
New Jersey LCV PAC is also proud to support Christine Clarke and Laura Fortgang of District 26. Both Clarke and Fortgang are leading their campaigns with an environmental focus and committed to addressing climate change. Their opponents, incumbents Webber and DeCroce are among the worst in the state with just 29% and 34% respective environmental ratings on New Jersey LCV’s 2017 Scorecard.
Assembly Districts 24 and 25. New Jersey LCV PAC field organizer Anny Martinez will be supporting the campaign efforts of Lisa Bhimani and Darcy Draeger’s campaign race for seats in District 25, which covers which covers municipalities such as Denville, Randolph, and Morristown. We believe Bhimani and Draeger will be the environmental change the open-seat 25th district needs to combat hazardous algae blooms and preservation of its open spaces.
Additionally, Anny will be assisting Deana Lykins’s campaign race for a seat in District 24, which covers municipalities such as Franklin Borough, Frelinghuysen Township, Hardwick, and Newton. Lykin’s is committed to fighting to preserve the district’s farms and open spaces and efforts to protect the region’s lakes from a growing hazardous algae bloom infestation Assemblymen Space (19% New Jersey LCV score) and Wirths have failed to step up to address.
