New Jersey Society of CPAs Collects Nearly $25,000 for New Jersey Food Banks

ROSELAND, N.J. – The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) received nearly $25,000 in online donations — its highest amount ever — for its 11th annual Food Drive hosted by its Emerging Leaders Council this fall. In addition, NJCPA member accounting firms collected approximately 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food. All food and monetary donations will benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and local food banks throughout the state.

The Community FoodBank distributes food to charities, soup kitchens and food pantries throughout the state. Due to COVID-19, New Jersey’s food insecurity rate is expected to rise by 56 percent, which is more than the national average and the surrounding states, according to the FoodBank.

Since 2010, NJCPA has donated more than 20,000 pounds of food to the FoodBank. This year’s vast online contributions are a direct result of COVID-19 restrictions in offices and due to the desire to counteract current food insecurity in the state.

“This year’s donations are particularly important due to the devastating impact the pandemic has had on New Jersey’s residents and business owners. Food insecurity is real, and every way we can help alleviate that condition should be put into practice,” said Nicole DeRosa, CPA, MAcc, tax manager at Wiss and chairperson of the Emerging Leaders Council.

The NJCPA Emerging Leaders Council is an appointed leadership group that addresses the needs of NJCPA members with up to 10 years of experience, including CPA candidates and new licensees.
