NEW JERSEY YOUNG DEMOCRATS ENDORSE LEE M. CLARK FOR PHILLIPSBURG TOWN COUNCIL

Clark Pledges to Be a Voice for Next Generation and Under-Represented

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (July 26, 2019)—The New Jersey Young Democrats have endorsed Lee M. Clark for Phillipsburg Town Council in Phillipsburg’s municipal elections in November.

Clark, the president of the Warren County Young Democrats, is seeking his first term as a council member. He is running on the “Fighting for Phillipsburg” slate with Phillipsburg Mayor Steve Ellis and council candidate JP Stettner. The slate has been endorsed by the Phillipsburg Democratic Committee and the Warren County Democratic Committee.

Lee Clark will represent and be a voice for Phillipsburg’s younger generation and for those who face historical and systemic barriers,” said Fatima Heyward, president of the New Jersey Young Democrats. “He has the experience and qualifications to help Phillipsburg meet its unique economic redevelopment, environmental and social challenges,” Heyward said.

“Thank you to the New Jersey Young Democrats for their endorsement of my candidacy, and all of the great work they do supporting aspiring leaders throughout New Jersey,” said Clark. “As an active member in the community, I strive to be a positive representation for other young professionals looking to make positive change in their communities. I’m running on a platform that seeks to invest in Phillipsburg’s next generation to ensure economic prosperity, environmental security, and a voice for so many neighborhoods within our town that have been under-represented by past councils,” Clark said.

About Lee M. Clark

Lee M. Clark works for New Jersey League of Conservation Voters and Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania. In 2019, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy appointed Lee to serve a five-year term on the Phillipsburg Housing Authority as the state’s representative commissioner.

Prior to his work with the Delaware River Watershed, Lee worked as the Field Director for New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Education Fund’s Green in ’17 campaign, an initiative to raise awareness around prominent environmental issues including clean energy, clean drinking water, open space preservation, and environmental justice. Lee has experience working on a number of national, state, and local campaigns including Rep. Tom Malinowski’s 2018 congressional campaign, Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign in Pennsylvania, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman’s 2014 congressional campaign, and Sen. Cory Booker’s 2013 senatorial campaign.

As a 27-year-old African American, Lee is running to represent Phillipsburg’s future generation and to be a voice for Phillipsburg’s under-represented populations. His expertise in environmental issues such as watershed management and green infrastructure is crucial to the challenges Phillipsburg faces in redeveloping its Delaware River front and addressing issues of flooding, pollution, open space preservation and expanding outdoor recreation.

Lee M. Clark received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and master’s degree in Business Communication from Rider University.
