THE NEWARK 72 COLLECTIVE ANNOUNCES HISTORIC “NEWARK TALKS” PANEL FEATURING NEWARK DIGNITARIES.
Newark Talks 1.0: Our Elders Shine the Light and Tell the Truth
Newark, NJ — On June 22, 2019, the Newark 72 Collective will host panel discussions, titled “Newark Talks 1.0: Our Elders Shine the Light…” The event will feature “elders” who contributed to the educational and broader political build in Newark from 1967 to the present. Panelist include the former Mayor Sharpe James, Newark Municipal Council President Mildred Crump, People’s Organization for Progress Chairman Larry Hamm and former Newark Public Schools Superintendent Eugene Campbell.
There will be two panels. One focusing on education and the other focusing on politics. Registrants for the event are all Newark residents ages 44 and under. The hope of the Newark 72 Collective is that registrants learn directly from panelists through honest dialogue about their role in shaping Newark. Nearly 72% of Newark residents are under the age of 45. The Newark 72 Collective seeks to build equitable political power and increase civic engagement amongst Newark’s largest age demographic.
The purpose of the Newark Talks series is to provide an opportunity for 72%ers to learn Newark’s history, network with peers, and increase their knowledge in both local politics and civic engagement.
