NJ Labor Department Expands Virtual Services to One-Stop Career Center Clients
Unemployment Assistance Remains Remote-Only
TRENTON – With the COVID-19 pandemic still among us, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) plans to offer a full suite of online and telephonic jobseeker services through its One-Stop Career Centers beginning Aug. 10.
Comprehensive support for unemployment customers remains available online, and through the regional call centers, which have expanded their capacity. However, in-person services will not be available at any One-Stop location due to overriding concerns for the health and safety of customers and staff.
“It is important that our One Stop Career Centers resume their role as a trusted community resource offering much-needed workforce services,” said Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo. “But, we must restart thoughtfully and carefully, so as to maximize our impact to those wishing to start or change careers while the health and safety of our customers and staff remains paramount.”

Remote-access services available through the One-Stops include career planning; assessment of training needs; occupational skills training and job search support for unemployed adults and dislocated workers; Re-Employment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA), which unemployment claimants find work before they exhaust their benefits; career services for individuals with disabilities, including resume building, accommodating equipment and job placement; and online workshops.

NJDOL has continually worked with our partners at the state’s Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to help New Jersey workers find immediate, in-demand employment through the jobs portal at jobs.covid19.nj.gov.
Services accessible to employers include recruitment assistance, virtual job fairs, apprenticeship programs, on-the-job training, layoff aversion, and incumbent worker training. For details, visit nj.gov/labor/business.
Anyone seeking unemployment assistance is urged to visit myunemployment.nj.gov. It is the most effective method of filing unemployment claims, checking claim status, certifying for benefits and finding helpful information and resources.
