NJDSC Adopts Delegate Selection Plan for 2020 Democratic National Convention

Party Hopes To Build Most Diverse, Inclusive DNC Delegation In Its History

TRENTON, N.J. — The Executive Committee of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee has voted unanimously to adopt the party’s Delegate Selection Plan for the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The plan is based around the party’s goal of building the most diverse, inclusive delegation it has ever sent to a convention and truly reflecting the values of the Democratic Party.

The adopted Delegate Selection Plan is available here: https://www.njdems.org/2020-new-jersey-delegate-selection-plan/

“Our party is a leader in promoting diversity and inclusion, because these are the values that make the Democratic Party, our state and our local communities stronger,” said NJDSC Chairman John Currie. “Our delegate selection process will ensure that our state is fully and fairly represented at the Democratic National Convention as we nominate our candidate for this critical election.”

New Jersey’s allotment of delegates includes 128 delegates and nine alternates. The delegates will be proportionally allocated throughout the state according to state legislative districts, with an equal number of spots allowed for men and women. Qualified candidates for delegate will be placed on the ballot in the June 2020 Presidential Primary election, where they will run alongside presidential candidates who meet the state’s ballot access criteria. The Executive Committee considered the plan as modified and approved by the NJDSC’s Affirmative Action Committee.

“This Democratic primary process is a historic example of the deep reservoir of talented, dedicated public servants in the Democratic Party today,” said NJDSC Vice Chair Peg Schaffer. “We want our Delegate Selection process to match it, and we’re all proud of the work that has been done to create this plan.”
