NJDSC CHAIR JONES STATEMENT ON TRUMP ADDRESS

TRENTON- New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chair Leroy J. Jones, Jr. released the following statement on President Donald Trump’s address to the nation this evening:

“Throughout history, live televised Presidential Addresses have been an important tool to update the American people on global conflicts and economic policies.  Tonight, we were subjected to the first Presidential Address that could have been delivered from a park bench.

President Trump’s wild claims of voter fraud and continued refusal to acknowledge his loss of six years ago are the delusional ravings of an individual gearing up to try and cast doubt on this November’s elections.

These last months have been spent trying to convince people to ignore what they know to be true and, sadly, New Jersey Republicans are now actively amplifying these dangerous claims.  Make no mistake, while President Trump’s words tonight may seem like the rantings of a conspiracy theorist to a rational mind, the President and the people around him have a plan, and it is not rooted in democracy.

It has never been more important for everyone to stay on task and do the work required to take back the House and Senate and restore critically important guardrails on our American democracy.  In New Jersey, there is work to be done to emerge victorious this November, but tonight’s Address should reiterate for every New Jersey Democrat just how important that work truly is.”
