NJGOP Chairman calls on NJ candidates to return Chelsea Handler PAC money after her comments blaming “Republicans” for the Texas shooting

In response to this comment from Handler, New Jersey Republican Chairman Michael Lavery made the following statement:

“Horrible tragedies like the Texas and Las Vegas shootings inspire real leaders to come together and think about solutions. A few weeks ago Chelsea Handler declared she was entering the political realm full-time and in turn would be taking the responsibilities that come with that. She is obviously not a  real leader. She’s either a truly radical activist or she’s leveraging a mass shooting by making inciting comments to raise her public profile for monetary gain. Either way, her placing of blame on the Republican Party for the massacre in Texas should be broadly rejected by both sides of the aisle. It’s time for the political community to come together and reject Hollywood activists who are misguided in their use of their public profiles. These are times when we need to unite and show compassion, not to lash out and further the divide that breeds violence instead of curbing it. I am calling on all of the candidates for office who received financial contributions from Handler’s political action committee to return those funds and to condemn Handler’s comment.”
