NJUA PRESIDENT CHURCHELOW STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR MURPHY SIGNING S3691/A5685 INTO LAW

Trenton — New Jersey Utilities Association (NJUA) President Tom Churchelow issued the following statement today regarding Governor Murphy signing into law S3691/A5685, legislation which will provide $250 million in utility assistance to New Jerseyans:

“This new law provides sorely needed assistance to help pay down the well over $700 million in utility arrearages that exist in New Jersey. On behalf of all our member organizations, we want to thank Governor Murphy and the bill’s many sponsors and supporters for making this a reality.

“We recognize the impact the pandemic has had on so many. NJUA’s members have been and will continue to provide assistance and promote programs that help those in need. At the same time, they can only do so much. That is why it is so important that the utility assistance allocated in this new law be used to directly pay down utility arrearages; especially because it may be done without New Jerseyans having to apply for utility assistance programs, though we still encourage those who need help to go to www.nj.gov/dca/dcaid. The funding provided can help both utility customers and utility companies get back on the right track as we work to emerge from a post-COVID world.”
