PRIMARY IS OVER - TIME TO COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ANALILIA MEJIA FOR CONGRESS

Now that the primary for the special election to fill Mikie Sherrill’s congressional seat in the 11th Congressional District is over, it is time for everyone who cares about our democracy to come together to support Analilia Mejia in the April 16th general election.

The primary was a tough race with many great candidates, but now it has concluded and Analilia is the democratic candidate and I am thrilled to support her, a woman, for congress.

The present political situation is as dire as at any time in my not-so-young lifetime.

When we think about what is at risk: our very democracy, reproductive rights, civil rights, decency, our communities, our neighbors, our economy, our standing in the world, it is clear to me, that despite our intraparty differences, we must coalesce behind the candidate that our democratic electorate has chosen, Analila Mejia.

As many people are aware, during the primary race, I expressed concern about where candidates, including Analilia stood on Israel. However, I believe that first, we the United States of America, can be of no use to any other country, including Israel, if we fail as a democracy. And there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Congresswoman Analilia Mejia will fight to protect our democracy.

Analilia has both publicly and personally expressed her belief that Israel must exist as a just and functioning democracy, not only for the Jewish people, but for the world. She and I share a belief that Israel and Netanyahu are not the same thing. I, myself, do not support Netanyahu and I do not fault anyone, including Analilia, in criticizing him and demanding better.

I know Analilia and I unequivocally support her for Congress and urge everyone to come together to elect her as the next Congresswoman in CD-11.
