Nora Martínez DeBenedetto Criticizes Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher’s Vote Against a Non-Binding Referendum on E-Scooters
Nora Martinez DeBenedetto, a candidate for 2nd Ward Council, criticized her opponent, Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher for her vote against putting a non-binding referendum on the November ballot to give the public a voice on whether or not to continue the e-scooter sharing program post the six-month pilot period. If it had been adopted, the non-binding vote proposed by Mayor Bhalla would have helped inform decision-making about the future of the e-scooters sharing program. E-scooters have been robustly used by Hoboken residents, but have also triggered strong negative reactions from some residents.
“Last night Tiffanie Fisher voted to silence the voices of Second Ward residents regarding scooters and pedestrian safety,” said Nora Martinez De Benedetto. “The non-binding referendum proposed by Mayor Bhalla would have provided residents in the Second Ward and across Hoboken an opportunity to offer an opinion at the ballot box in November. As a mom and teacher, I am out on the sidewalks every day, and I have spoken to hundreds of residents. I can tell you that, love ‘em or hate ‘em, everyone has an opinion on the scooters. It’s hard to understand why Councilwoman Fisher wouldn’t want to hear from her constituents.”
Nora Martínez DeBenedetto is a teacher at Kaplan Cooperative Preschool. She coordinates Art in the Park for the City of Hoboken and was a founding member and volunteer organizer of the Hoboken Uptown Farmers Market for ten years. She is also a lifelong resident of Hoboken.
