Norcross Calls on Gov. Murphy to Issue Disaster Declaration for South Jersey Flooding

Congressman Donald Norcross, who serves on the United States House Committee on Education and Labor, offered his support for the Raise the Wage Act. Democrats argue that passage of the act will increase the national minimum wage, which will lift people out of poverty and stimulate the economy.

Norcross Calls on Gov. Murphy to Issue Disaster Declaration for South Jersey Flooding

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) called on Governor Phil Murphy to issue a major disaster declaration for Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties following the severe storm that is still ripping through South Jersey, leaving roads flooded and closed, PATCO service suspended and cars overturned. If granted, this declaration could trigger the release of federal funds to help communities.

“As thousands of South Jerseyans continue dealing with severe rain and flooding, we must work to provide as much assistance as possible,” said Congressman Norcross. “My office has spoken to mayors and administrators throughout the First District who know we need Governor Murphy to issue this declaration swiftly so we can move one step closer to unlocking federal resources. Let’s work together to help our first responders, homeowners, commuters and families recover.”

Below is a copy of Congressman Norcross’ letter to the Governor:

Honorable Phil Murphy

Dear Governor Murphy:

This week has been one of the rainiest weeks in South Jersey memory, and overnight rains have inundated communities along the Delaware River and beyond. Ongoing flooding has forced the closure of roads in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties, PATCO services have been suspended, cars have been overturned and thousands of residents are struggling – all while heavy rain is still in the forecast.

I therefore urge you to issue a major disaster declaration to help provide resources for those living in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties and ensure that our municipalities and emergency management offices have access to all necessary funding sources to meet their needs for an efficient response that keeps residents safe.

Thank you for considering this request on behalf of the people I represent. Let’s swiftly address the challenges presented by the storms this week.

Sincerely,

Donald Norcross
Member of Congress
