Norcross Calls on New Jersey Transit & Bombardier to Swiftly Restore Service on Camden-Trenton River Line

CHERRY HILL, NJ – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement on the indefinite suspension of the Bombardier and New Jersey Transit’s (NJT) River Line that was announced late last night:

“Thousands of New Jerseyans rely on the River Line every week, and they deserve to have consistent, reliable service. By connecting two of the most populous New Jersey cities and offering transfers to Philadelphia and Atlantic City, the River Line is a vital artery that allows our regional economy to thrive.

“Shuttle bus service cannot be more than an emergency remedy, and I strongly urge NJT and Bombardier to swiftly restore safe, full service to the River Line. As concert season peaks at BB&T Pavilion and budget deadlines loom in Trenton, it is more important than ever that safe, reliable train service is available for New Jerseyans.

“This unexpected closure is disheartening at best and I request a briefing on this and other recent challenges from Bombardier and NJT. We must ensure our rail lines are effectively serving New Jerseyans.”

Earlier this year, Norcross worked with NJT and NJDOT officials to reopen the Atlantic City Rail Line. Norcross and 10 of his New Jersey House colleagues sent a letter to NJT Executive Director Corbett regarding the service shutdown and, in February, he commented on the timeline set by the state. In April, Norcross vowed to “continue to work with transportation officials to ensure we are able to keep our rails consistently running in the future.”
